Sometimes, even the best-laid plans can go haywire, but with glorious results. Case in point …
An experienced painter at the Gretsch factory began prepping topcoats on 200 of the new Electromatic® G5422TDCG double-cutaway guitars in beautiful Snow Crest White. What the painter didn’t realize was that he had connected the source of the paint supply with a contaminated feed line just used to do a run of guitars in Cherry Red.
Once the paint cured on the guitars, the shop foreman questioned the painter on his method of creating the now-gorgeous high-gloss white finish containing just a slight hint of red; a color that wasn’t scheduled for use. Embarrassed and unsure at the time how the mishap occurred, the painter, in an effort to save face, confidently responded, “What you see before you is not guitars painted the wrong color, but 200 instruments finished in the shade Cherry Blossom.”
And so, there now exists a limited worldwide quantity of 200 G5422TDCG guitars in what we consider a gorgeous Cherry Blossom finish.
The Electromatic G5422TDCG double-cutaway hollow-body features sound-post bracing and elegant body and f hole binding. It also features dynamic new “Black Top” Filter’Tron™ pickups based on a select set of Baldwin-era Filter’Trons, which provide knockout punch and phenomenal twang. Other features include a maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and hump-block pearloid inlays, gold plexi pickguard, three-position pickup switch, classic “G”-arrow control knobs, rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and Bigsby®-licensed B60G vibrato tailpiece, vintage-style open-back tuners and gold-plated hardware.
