Gretsch Featured on Orange is the New Black

Orange is the New Black
Side Boob band features Gretsch-wielding axeman Tom Beaujour

Orange is the new black is kind of what Gretsch has been saying for many years now. So it seems only fitting for a Gretsch guitar to appear on popular Netflix television series Orange is the New Black.

In the second season’s fifth episode, corrections officer Sam Healy (played by Michael Harney) walks into a bar and is surprised to see assistant to the warden Joe Caputo (played by actor Nick Sandow) playing bass with his rock band Side Boob.

Side Boob makes a return appearance in episode six when Caputo invites another correctional officer to come check out the group.

Although a fictional outfit, Side Boob does feature a few real life musicians in Nada Surf drummer Ira Elliott, Tim Foljahn (Cat Power, Thurston Moore Band) and Tom Beaujour, whose songwriting team (Adopted Highways) co-wrote and recorded the songs that appear on the series. It’s Beaujour who is seen rocking his Gretsch axe.
