The 55th annual Grammy Awards show honored several breakout acts this year, drawing from an eclectic group of artists.
The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach actually led the night with four trophies, sweeping the rock categories (song, album and performance) while also nabbing a Grammy for producer of the year.
British folk band Mumford & Sons won Album of the Year for Babel, indie-pop act Fun. won Song of the Year for “We Are Young,” Halestorm was honored with the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for “Love Bites (So Do I)” and Australian singer Gotye won Record of the Year for “Somebody That I Used to Know.”
Gretsch signature artist Tim Armstrong might not have won an award with his punk outfit Rancid, but the singer-songwriter did take home some hardware for his collaboration with reggae icon Jimmy Cliff.
The duo won for Cliff’s first album in eight years, a gem entitled Rebirth that carries production and performing credits for Armstrong.
The ceremony also featured blockbuster performances from several artists.
One standout was Bruno Mars, who took the stage with Sting, Damian and Ziggy Marley, and Rihanna to perform a medley that included his new hit “Locked Out of Heaven,” the Police’s “Walking On the Moon” and Bob Marley’s “Could You Be Loved.” Mars rocked a Gretsch Duo Jet in Cadillac Green for the occasion.
