Hozier capped off an impressive 2015 with yet another accolade, taking home Song of the Year for soulful ballad “Take Me to Church” at the BBC Music Awards held earlier this week.
As the only category voted on by the public, it’s considered a highly coveted honor and the Irish singer/songwriter bested stiff competition such as Ed Sheeran, the Weekend and Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars to take home the trophy.
“I genuinely was not expecting that, especially looking at the other nominations,” said a gracious and humble Hozier during his acceptance speech. “There’s absolute juggernauts there, just absolute amazing songs. To be among them is an honor, and to win is a shock.”
Accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra, Hozier also took the stage during the show with his Gretsch Jet Baritone to perform the award-winning song.
Hozier continues his world tour through March 2016, and you can check out his tour dates here.
