2016 marked the 20th anniversary of Ash’s debut album, 1977. During a tour to close out the year, the Irish alt-rock trio performed their inaugural effort in full with lead singer/guitarist Tim Wheeler bringing out a special Gretsch guitar.
Wheeler purchased the 1995 Gretsch Silver Jet while on the band’s first U.S. tour, and then used it as his main album to record 1977. Other than having his tech glue down the floating bridge, Wheeler has kept the rest of the guitar stock and it still appears as if its in sparkling condition!
To mark the anniversary, Ash released a live album called Live On Mars: London Astoria 1977, which fans can order or listen to here.
