Gretsch G5222 and G5655T Land On ‘Guitarist’ Magazine’s Best Guitars for Under $1,000 List

The Gretsch G5222 Electromatic® Double Jet™ and G5655T Electromatic Center Block Jr. Single-Cut each nabbed a slot on Guitarist magazine’s list of best guitars for under $1,000.

“There’s never been a better time to buy a guitar under a grand and there are some absolute belters to be had,” wrote Guitarist in their September issue.

The G5222 scored top marks in the retro-inspired category for its modern spin on a vintage instrument.

“Inspired by Gretsch’s legendary Jet guitar that appeared in the ‘50s, this chambered mahogany body/maple top double-cutaway is kitted out with a V-Stoptail that is reminiscent of the Cadillac ‘V’ tailpiece styling of yore,” noted the magazine.

The G5655T’s center block construction was praised in the semi-solid body category for producing a rich tone without hindrance of feedback commonly heard in fully hollow body designs.

“Small in size but mighty in tone, these giant killing models retain all the charm of Gretsch’s unique heritage,” said the article. “The single-cutaway G5655T has a laminated maple body and is constructed with a feedback-busting spruce center block.”

Both models get their expansive sonic voice from dual Black Top Broad’Tron™ bridge and neck pickups.

“From clean to gnarly overdrive, a pair of Black Top Broad’Tron humbuckers provides a pleasingly rich, full and focused sound,” said Guitarist.
